There are so many people in this country who don't have a lot of food. We see all of the time that millions of Americans don't know when their next meal will be. It's such a hard truth. Whenever I'm watching a TV show that talks about feeding people in America I think about what I can do to help. Thanks to Walmart, I can help! And so can you.
Walmart is working with Feeding America and four of the most recognizable food brands in America- ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft and Kellogg's - in a nationwide Fighting Hunger Together initiative from Monday, April 9 through April 30.
Vote to fight spring hunger with Walmart
So what can we do? There are a couple of ways we can join the fight against hunger. The first is in-store at Walmart by purchasing select products from ConAgra, General Mills, Kraft, and Kellogg's to donate meals to Feeding America or Action for Healthy Kids, a nonprofit fighting childhood hunger. Check out in-store signage and packaging to make a purchase and help make a difference. These are brands that I purchase all of the time and I seem to find myself at Walmart once a week anyway. Why not help out while I'm there?
The second way we can help is through Facebook. I, like so many others, am on Facebook everyday, and sometimes multiple times a day. I can use part of my Facebook time to take part in a campaign hosted by Walmart where fans can rally support for communities in need of hunger relief. Vote among 200 communities with the highest unemployment rate as determined by a Department of Labor Report. Walmart will donate a total of $2 million to the 21 communities receiving the most support: $1 million to the winner and $50,000 each to the 20 runners-up. Winning communities will be announced May 1st. How cool is that? Being a native Idaho girl, I plan to vote for the Boise City-Nampa, ID Metropolitan Area. I would love to help out my home state.
