new diana fayt for spring!
one of san francisco's favorite potters, diana fayt has some new products in her shop for spring that recently caught my eye. etched with her various signature markings, her pieces are made with lead-free food safe materials using beautiful colored glazes inside and out such as violet, lotus, ice blue, canary and ivory to name just a few. the small shallow bowls would look amazing on the wall i'm thinking as a grouping!
the process she has developed and uses is very labor intensive which includes thirteen steps from beginning to end and can take up to seven hours to complete which doesn't include the twenty-three hours of firing time in the kiln. all of her etchings are freehand illustrations and her pieces are intentionally made irregular in shape to leave evidence of the handmade being an integral part of her work.
she is also participating in a group show called "line and color that is at mudfire gallery in decatur, georgia that opens on april 5th featuring pieces with native californian flora species (below).
