We've been enjoying days filled with glorious sunshine and warmth since last weekend, something that I could get very used to! Patio season seems to be officially here (fingers crossed, anyway!) and it's time to start adding some personality to our freshly stained deck. While we're not all lucky enough to have a screened-in porch or covered patio, it doesn't take much to make your outdoor space feel like an extension of your indoor living space...some pillows, an area rug and colourful accents can all work wonders!

Thankfully, there is now a large variety of weather-proof outdoor furniture and decor elements available, many of which are made from recycled materials. We've come a long way from the aluminum and mesh folding chairs that I grew up with! Vintage and wicker pieces are also great options, as long as they're kept somewhat dry and under cover.

Whether your outdoor space is a tiny urban balcony or a large covered deck on the outskirts of town, it doesn't need to be an expensive task to extend your living space outside. Use what you already have, scour thrift shops or snoop through your Dad's garden shed...you'll be surprised at what you may find to create the perfect outdoor room!
