Almost done!!! Testing that is, not the school year. My grade 6 students have been in province-wide testing (reading, writing, and math) since Wednesday. I'm finishing up on Monday. My grade 7 students also have a board-wide math test on Monday. Just one more day! Although it's my tenth year teaching, and have had almost as many years administering the test, I still find it funny how my emotions can change from one moment to the next. One minute I will feel completely validated and proud of my students for mastering a particularly difficult question, and the next moment I will deflate as a student misses a concept I was sure he or she had mastered. HOW many TIMES have I stressed the importance of giving evidence from the text ... HOW many TIMES have I modelled it ... HOW many TIMES have the students corrected each other ... HOW many TIMES have the students worked independently on it successfully??? The answer to all is MORE THAN ENOUGH TIMES! I know I'm lucky that the vast majority of my students put 200% into the tests, but in my perfect dream world, ALL my students would. In my perfect dream world, I would be able to motivate all my students all of the time (even during testing week in June).
For today's Friday Freebie, I've decided to share a file that came in quite handy this week. In between tests, I got my students up and moving around the class by using this activity for the SMARTboard. Check out my Physical Education Magic 8-Ball. Clicking on the picture will bring you to my TeacherpayTeachers store to download your own copy.
Have a GREAT weekend!
